DESCRIPTION
Femminello Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is a symbol of calabrian tradition and culture around the World.
ORIGIN
Bergamots originate from Southern Italy, Calabria region, where it’s been highly grown for hundreds of years, and has now become a symbol of tradition and high quality.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is usually vigorous, with long and sometimes falling branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are long and lanceolate in shape, dark-green in colour, and extremely fragrant.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is the classic medium sized Bergamot. Sometimes it can be a little bit pear-shaped at the petiol.
-Flavour: Skin is amazing in flavour: it’s so aromatic, intense in aroma! Pulp is so juicy, aromatic but quite bitter. Some seeds can be found inside.
-Colour: Light yellow to deep yellow outside, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Fruits start to be ready for harvesting from January about, but someone use them when they are still green.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Femminello Bergamot can be highly used in the kitchen.
You can use it to make amazing and sweet marmalades, cakes, liquors.
You can simply zest it to give your recipes a special aroma!
Obviously, as any other bergamot, it’s been highly used to make fantastic parfumes.
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental citrus variety for its particular shape.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
