DESCRIPTION
Calaniculata Citron (Citrus medica calaniculata) is a particular citron variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin at the moment, but it probably comes from southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour, with long and sometimes falling branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate to round-shaped, bright green in colour and medium in size.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a small Citron, with classic ribs on the skin.
-Flavour: Skin is so aromatic in flavour. Pulp is acid and so refreshing, very similar to a lemon one.
-Colour: Light yellow to bright yellow outside, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It usually starts to produce during Winter, but fruits hold well on the tree until Spring.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Calaniculata Citron can be highly used in the kitchen.
Fruit can be squeezed just like a classic lemon, or zested to give your recipes a special flavour.
This particular Citron is also amazing to be candied.
-Ornamental: It’s a nice looking ornamental variety for its particular shape.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -5°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
