DESCRIPTION
Salò Citron (Citrus medica) is one of the most traditional and rare Citron variety of our collection.
It’s also called “Roman Citron”.

ORIGIN
It’s origin is restricted to Salò ( a little Italian town, found in Northern Italy, near Brescia).

PLANT

-Tree features: Plant is medium-high in vigour, with long and sometimes thorny branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate in shape, more similar to lemon leaves, extremely dark green in colour.

FRUIT

-Shape: Fruit is a big oval to oblate Citron. The main feature of this variety is the particular “nipple” found at the apex.
-Flavour: Skin is very aromatic, intense in flavour. Pulp is somewhat acid, but refreshing in taste.
-Colour: Light yellow to deep yellow outside, according to climate conditions.
Pulp is usually light yellow in colour.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: It starts to produce fruits from November to Spring, according to flowering and climate conditions.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Salò Citron can be used in the kitchen just like any other Citrons.
Skin can be used to produce amazing candied peels, or more simply zested to give your food an amazing refreshing flavour.
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental variety for its particular fruit and its shape.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
